ISLAMABAD: An urgent advisory issued by the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment (BIOE) warned Pakistani nationals staying in Cyprus about the dire consequences of involvement in illegal immigration and remaining within the jurisdiction of the country illegally.

Through an awareness bulletin, the Bureau advised all Pakistani citizens staying in the country to abide by the immigration rules in order to stay safe. It was stated that one should not use any illegal and deceptive practices while traveling overseas. All individuals should acquire proper visas before traveling overseas.

According to the Bureau, immigration regulations in Cyprus had become more stringent. Over 93 percent of asylum applications were being rejected, making it one of the highest rates in Europe. Only a very small number of asylum seekers receive their status, and strict control is exercised at the borders.

It was further informed that, during the year 2025, Cyprus deported a record number of foreigners including Pakistani citizens. Deportations had increased due to illegal stay of individuals once their visas expired.

According to the BIOE, people should make sure that all their papers are updated and correct so as not to face any legal problems or be deported. The BIOE has also advised people to find more information by accessing its website and social media sites.

Kuwait makes key move on foreign workers, new decision unveiled

Meanwhile, the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) in Kuwait has quickly reacted to the complaints filed by the foreign workers. It immediately addressed the complaints of the foreign workers, providing the necessary assistance in dealing with the problem.

As per reports from the foreign press, the move came following the unusual meeting held by the workers; thereafter, authorities immediately acted, and the case was handed over to the criminal investigation authorities suspecting any involvement in human trafficking.

The Public Authority for Manpower received complaints about foreign workers holding an unlawful assembly at their offices. This meeting was treated very seriously due to the fear that it would lead to a collective work stoppage. To handle this problem, an emergency team was formed to deal with the situation.

All the concerned foreign workers were removed to safe places along with the provision of necessities and security. Further, interviews with the foreign workers were conducted regarding the cause of the gathering.

Early investigations into the matter have revealed various violations of labour laws. Some instances have even highlighted the problem of exploitation. In certain instances, there have been claims of forced labour and human trafficking. Following these findings, the issue has now been transferred to the CID.

According to statements issued by the Public Authority for Manpower, the rights of workers would always remain a priority. It was confirmed that the laws concerning labour would be strictly enforced, while legal proceedings would follow against individuals found guilty of any wrongdoing, irrespective of their status.

This comes as part of the efforts being made in order to curb the exploitation of workers in Kuwait and to improve the situation according to international standards.

Although the number of workers affected, their nationalities, and companies responsible have not been mentioned, Kuwait has experienced many such cases of worker exploitation in recent times especially in delivery, construction, and service sectors.
