PESHAWAR: The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has intensified their crackdown on undocumented Afghan nationals, while landlords renting houses and apartments to Afghan migrants in Peshawar have also been served notices, officials said.
As per the sources in the provincial Home Department, the rate of return of Afghans to their own country has been on the rise as the deadline for the repatriation program has neared.
The official figures have revealed that 23,336 Afghan nationals, including both women and children, returned to Afghanistan in the period from July 11 to July 16.
Sources revealed that before the deadline, about 400 to 600 Afghans used to return home each day, but this figure has shot up now to around 3,400 to 4,100 individuals every day.
The Home Department has reported that the law enforcement agencies repatriated 2,163 undocumented foreigners after their arrest in operations carried out in different parts of the province.
More than 600 Afghan nationals were arrested and deported to their home country during raids carried out in the past five days in Peshawar, sources reported.
Notices have been issued to landlords of many parts of Peshawar, ordering them to evacuate the house or flat leased to undocumented Afghan nationals.
