PESHAWAR: Pakistani security forces carried out a strong retaliatory response after Afghan Taliban forces allegedly opened unprovoked fire on Pakistani border posts in the Kurram sector along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, according to security sources.
Sources said Afghan Taliban personnel targeted Pakistani positions with heavy weapons, mortars and other arms, prompting an immediate response from Pakistani forces.
According to security officials, Pakistani troops engaged multiple Afghan border posts, mortar positions and defensive installations using small and heavy weapons, as well as artillery fire.
Security sources claimed that Pakistani forces maintained full control of their border positions and effectively countered the cross-border attack.
The retaliatory operation reportedly forced Afghan Taliban fighters to abandon several positions and withdraw from the area, the sources added.
Officials said the situation along the border is being closely monitored and that security forces remain on high alert to respond swiftly to any further escalation.
