KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust has set a new national record for container handling before the end of the financial year, and the port handled more than 2.651 million TEU containers, which is the highest performance in the country’s history.

The role of Karachi Port in Pakistan’s economy and maritime trade has become more prominent. Admiral Shahid Ahmed said that Karachi Port is the backbone of the country’s economy and maritime trade, and it has once again proven its importance.

Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar, while describing the achievement as a “historic milestone”, said that the record performance in container handling is a reflection of the growing confidence of the business community in the maritime sector.

According to him, this success is the result of the tireless work, dedication, and professionalism of the officers and workers of Karachi Port, who worked day and night to take the port to new heights.

The Chairman of Karachi Port Trust said on this occasion that due to the reforms made in the port and the installation of modern infrastructure, there has been a significant increase in cargo traffic.

He said that the improvement of digital systems, modern cranes, and logistics facilities has increased the operational capacity of the port, which has reduced the waiting time of ships and reduced the cost of doing business.

According to experts, this record performance of Karachi Port will not only promote Pakistan’s maritime trade but will also lead to an increase in the country’s exports and revenue. The port’s improved performance has restored investor confidence, and more foreign shipping lines are preferring Karachi Port.
