An inquiry has been launched into alleged financial irregularities exceeding one billion rupees in various sports development projects across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, official documents revealed on Monday.

According to the documents, notices have been issued to 22 officers of the Sports Department, seeking explanations regarding discrepancies in project expenditures.

The Directorate General of Sports, the Works Department, and the Project Management Unit (PMU) have been directed to submit detailed records.

The inquiry has been initiated by the provincial inspection team on the instructions of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi.

Officials have been instructed to submit certified vouchers for the amounts withdrawn from relevant accounts immediately.

The decision to launch the investigation was taken after a significant difference was identified between the funds released and the actual expenditures reported on multiple projects, the documents stated.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Sports is reportedly seeking a formal position and clarification from the concerned departments regarding the alleged irregularities. Further action is expected following the submission and review of the required financial records.
