ISLAMABAD: Flour prices have risen sharply across Pakistan over the past year, with the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag increasing by as much as Rs1,250 between July 10, 2025, and July 10, 2026, according to official data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The figures show significant price hikes in all major cities, including the federal capital and provincial capitals, placing additional financial pressure on households already grappling with inflation.
According to the PBS documents, Karachi continues to record the country’s highest flour prices. The price of a 20kg flour bag in the city has climbed from Rs1,800 a year ago to Rs2,900, the highest nationwide.
Among the steepest annual increases, Peshawar and Bannu recorded a rise of Rs1,250 per 20kg bag, followed by Quetta and Khuzdar with Rs1,200, Islamabad and Rawalpindi with Rs1,173, Sukkur with Rs1,140, and Karachi and Hyderabad with Rs1,100.
The data further shows that flour prices increased by Rs1,083 in Gujranwala, Rs1,013 in Bahawalpur, Rs1,000 each in Sialkot, Multan, and Larkana, Rs950 in Faisalabad, Rs850 in Lahore, and Rs806 in Sargodha.
The latest figures indicate that the price of a 20kg flour bag in Islamabad rose from Rs1,627 to Rs2,800, while in Rawalpindi it increased from Rs1,613 to Rs2,786. Prices also climbed from Rs1,450 to Rs2,533 in Gujranwala, Rs1,467 to Rs2,467 in Sialkot, and Rs1,400 to Rs2,250 in Lahore.
In Faisalabad, the price increased from Rs1,400 to Rs2,350, Sargodha from Rs1,494 to Rs2,300, Multan from Rs1,533 to Rs2,533, Bahawalpur from Rs1,467 to Rs2,480, and Karachi from Rs1,800 to Rs2,900.
Similarly, the price of a 20kg flour bag rose from Rs1,700 to Rs2,800 in Hyderabad, Rs1,400 to Rs2,540 in Sukkur, Rs1,500 to Rs2,500 in Larkana, Rs1,550 to Rs2,800 in Peshawar, Rs1,450 to Rs2,700 in Bannu, and Rs1,600 to Rs2,800 in both Quetta and Khuzdar.
The official data highlights a substantial year-on-year increase in flour prices across the country, underscoring the rising cost of essential food items for consumers.
