WASHINGTON: The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has announced the launch of a fresh round of US airstrikes against Iran, stating that the operations began at 5 p.m. US time on Sunday.
In a statement, CENTCOM said the strikes are aimed at further degrading Iran’s capability to threaten or target commercial and civilian vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
The command said US forces are continuing operations to ensure the safe passage of international maritime traffic, allowing commercial ships to navigate the vital waterway without disruption.
According to CENTCOM, the strikes are being carried out under the direction of the President of the United States and are intended to hold Iranian forces accountable for actions that threaten commercial shipping and civilian maritime operations.
