In the first quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup 2026, France defeated Morocco with 2-0 to reach the semi-finals and become the first team to reach the last four.
In the match played in Boston, USA, the French team played aggressively from the start and continuously attacked Morocco’s goal; however, both teams failed to score in the first half.
In the first half, France got a golden opportunity when Kylian Mbappe was awarded a penalty, but the Moroccan goalkeeper made a brilliant save to thwart his attempt, due to which the match remained goalless until the break.
In the second half, France maintained complete control of the game. In the 60th minute, captain Kylian Mbappe scored to give the team the lead, while just six minutes later, Ousmane Dembele scored a beautiful goal to make France’s lead 0-2.
Morocco also had a few chances to come back. In the 82nd minute, the French goalkeeper made a brilliant save on a free kick, while even after that, a certain goal by Morocco was missed.
With this success, France reached the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup for the third time in a row, while Morocco’s wonderful journey ended in the quarter-finals.
After scoring in the match, Kylian Mbappe also won another historic honor. His number of goals in the current World Cup has reached 8, with which he became the first footballer in the history of the FIFA World Cup to score eight goals in two different editions. Earlier, he had also scored a total of 8 goals in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
