ISLAMABAD: Lionel Messi has become the top scorer of the FIFA World Cup 2026, having scored nine goals in the ongoing World Cup, based on the latest statistics from the tournament.

In total, there have been 280 goals scored in 96 games played during the competition, with Argentina currently leading the way for all countries with 14 goals scored.

Messi’s current World Cup score also means that he is now sitting on 21 goals scored by him in total at the FIFA World Cups he has participated in over the course of his career.

Following France is second with 11 goals, while Norway’s Erling Haaland is third in the goalscorer list with seven goals.

Harry Kane, who is also the captain of England, is fourth in the goalscorer list with six goals.

Furthermore, 259 yellow cards and 14 red cards have also been issued in total by the match referees since the start of the World Cup.

The tournament will be moving towards the knockout phase now, with both the Golden Boot and the FIFA World Cup still up for grabs.
