ISLAMABAD: The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has offered some new employment opportunities for individuals interested in working in the field of international development and agriculture.

According to the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment, there are two basic categories of FAO staff:

Professional Staff – Recruited from all over the world for positions that require specialized knowledge.

General Service Staff – Recruited from the host nation for jobs that require general skills.

Apart from these, FAO also recruits consultants, interns, and volunteers for particular projects.

Salary and Allowances

Salary and allowances in the FAO are paid according to the UN common system. These include:

Basic Pay: Based on pay grades and marital status.

Post Adjustment: Extra allowance to balance costs and currencies of various nations.

The majority of salary and allowances are not subject to income tax in the respective country. Those who work in remote locations are sometimes granted additional allowances. Foreign recruitment is eligible for allowances such as transportation expenses, household allowances, and settling grants. Housing allowances are also available for those who work in expensive cities. Upon completion of employment, some are granted repatriation allowances.

Family and Education Assistance

Family assistance provided by FAO includes help with education for children until the first four years of university studies and sometimes even covers study-related travel expenses.

Leave Benefits and Work-Life Balance

Employees get about 30 days of vacation leave and 10 national holidays per year; in addition, international employees receive periodic leave to visit their home countries. FAO also provides generous maternity, paternity, and adoption leave that varies between two and sixteen weeks, depending on the situation.

Social Security and Pensions

Insurance covers health care, travel insurance for illness or injury, and other social security advantages. In addition, employees working for six months or more can join the UN pension plan.

To sum up, FAO offers very beneficial compensation packages, which makes it a good choice for professionals who seek international careers in agriculture and food security.

Interested applicants should create a profile and apply directly through the official FAO careers portal.
