PESHAWAR: At least six people, including three children, were killed and two others injured in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the past 24 hours, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Monday.
According to the PDMA, the casualties occurred as a result of heavy rainfall and flash floods that caused the collapse of roofs and walls in several districts of the province.
Among the dead persons, there were three males and three children, whereas among the injured, there was one female and one child.
As per PDMA, three houses were destroyed because of the extreme weather conditions. In this regard, two houses got partially destroyed while one house was totally destroyed.
The incidents took place in the districts of Khyber, Mardan, Mansehra and Kurram.
According to PDMA officials, rescue and relief operations are being conducted with the cooperation of Rescue 1122 and district administrations.
The PDMA directed the district administration to expedite the relief work for those affected families.
Despite the rain witnessed recently, the authority mentioned that there were no unusual levels or flows in the provincial rivers and streams.
The PDMA requested the citizens not to undertake any unnecessary travels and also avoid going to those areas which are sensitive to tourists.
According to officials, the Emergency Operations Center of the PDMA is operating on full throttle. Citizens are asked to contact PDMA through its hotline number 1700 in case of any emergency or queries related to weather.
