WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow users to share Instagram Reels directly through the messaging app, making it easier to send videos without switching between applications.
According to a report by WABetaInfo, the feature has appeared in a new beta version of WhatsApp for Android. It introduces a Reels shortcut within the app’s attachment menu, accessible through the gallery media picker.
Tapping the shortcut will open a dedicated screen where users can browse Instagram Reels and share them directly in WhatsApp chats.
The feature will require users to link and enable their WhatsApp account through Meta’s Accounts Centre. Without linking the account, users will not be able to share Instagram Reels through the media picker using the new shortcut.
According to the report, the interface will include three tabs: Recent, Saved and Liked.
The Recent tab will display Reels that users have recently viewed on Instagram, while the Saved tab will contain videos they have bookmarked. The Liked tab will show Reels they have liked on the platform.
Users will be able to select any Reel from these sections and share it directly with their WhatsApp contacts.
The feature is currently being tested in the Android beta version. However, its wider rollout and availability to all users have not yet been confirmed.
