Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have warned families to exercise caution when capturing wedding photographs and videos, cautioning that private footage could be misused for blackmail and online harassment.
In a security advisory, police said personal photographs and videos taken during wedding ceremonies could fall into the wrong hands and be exploited by criminals to threaten or intimidate families.
Authorities warned that cybercriminals could also use manipulated images, fabricated videos and deepfake technology to create misleading content and blackmail victims.
The warning comes as the winter wedding season begins across Pakistan, with families preparing for ceremonies and celebrations that often involve extensive photography and videography.
According to police, blackmailers may threaten to upload private material to social media or circulate it online, potentially causing serious emotional distress and reputational damage to those targeted.
Police have urged families to take precautions when arranging wedding photo and video shoots and to ensure that their personal content is handled and stored securely to prevent possible misuse.
