ISLAMABAD: Chinese automaker Geely has officially entered the Pakistani market through a partnership with the Bestway Group. Geely unveiled three vehicle models and announced plans to begin local assembly in the coming months.

The launch ceremony was held at Park View City, Islamabad, attended by Bestway Group founder Sir M. Anwar Pervez, Group Chairman Lord Zameer Choudrey, senior executives and representatives from the automotive industry.

The three models introduced at the event are the Geely EX2, EX5 and Starray EM-R. Bestway Automotive, Geely’s sole authorised distributor in Pakistan, will handle vehicle sales and after-sales services.

The Geely EX2 is a fully electric hatchback designed for city driving, while the EX5 is a fully electric sports utility vehicle (SUV). The Starray EM-R uses range-extended electric vehicle technology, combining electric driving with an onboard petrol engine.
Bestway is preparing its facility in Karachi for the next phase of Geely’s operations, including local assembly. The company aims to bring locally assembled Geely vehicles to Pakistani roads within the next few months.

Irfan Sheikh, Group Managing Director for Non-Banking Businesses at Bestway Group Pakistan, said the partnership brought together Bestway’s investment experience and Geely’s expertise in the automotive industry.

He said the introduction of the three models marked the first step in the partnership and expressed confidence in establishing Geely as a recognised name in Pakistan. Haider Choudrey, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bestway Group, said the company was expanding its investment in Pakistan into the automotive sector.

Bestway has invested more than $350 million in Pakistan and supported over 20,000 jobs during the last three years through its investments in sectors including cement manufacturing and banking.

Evin Ye, Vice President of GAIC and Managing Director of Geely Auto ASEAN, said Pakistan was the company’s first market in South Asia. He said Geely saw significant potential in the country and intended to build a long-term partnership focused on customers, vehicle safety and technology.
