PESHAWAR: Mian Iftikhar Hussain, President of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has formally requested the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), the KP Inspector General of Police, and the Secretary of Interior to take legal action against individuals allegedly spreading a religiously motivated hate campaign against the party’s leadership and workers on social media.
ANP leader in his official petition condemned the campaign and claimed that someone has started abusing ANP leaders and workers as Qadiani/ Ahmadi on different social media sites including WhatsApp. He termed it as a political move to create hatred among religious communities by inciting the passions of the people.
“As a constitutional political party committed to upholding the supremacy of the constitution, democracy, non-violence, and against extremism, ANP believes that targeting any political party based on religion not only creates danger for the life and property of workers but it will also increase enmity in society,” he added.
Moreover, Hussain pointed out that such false and misleading accusations would not only threaten the religion of ANP party members but could also create tensions among the communities. He further elaborated on the fact that the ANP had, through its history, made sacrifices of its leadership and over a thousand of its workers in fighting against terrorism.
He urged the NCCIA, KP Police, and Interior Secretary to conduct a swift and transparent investigation and take strict legal action against those spreading hate material or false narratives, ensuring the protection of public safety, citizens’ rights, religious sentiments, and overall peace.
