QUETTA: Flour prices have increased once again in the provincial capital, with the price of a 20-kilogram bag rising by Rs70 to Rs2,920 from Rs2,850.
According to market sources, flour prices have continued to rise in Quetta, adding to the financial difficulties faced by consumers already struggling with high inflation.
The latest increase has pushed up the cost of the staple food item, forcing households to spend more on their daily necessities.
Market sources attributed the rising flour prices to an increase in wheat prices and supply-related issues. Flour millers said they were facing difficulties in procuring wheat, while the price of available wheat had also increased.
According to flour mill owners, the higher cost of wheat is increasing production expenses, which is ultimately being passed on to consumers.
They warned that flour prices could rise further in the coming days if wheat supplies do not improve and prices fail to come down.
Meanwhile, citizens have expressed concern over the continued increase in flour prices, saying repeated hikes are placing additional pressure on household budgets.
They urged the government and relevant authorities to take immediate notice of the situation, ensure an adequate supply of wheat in the market and take effective measures to stabilise flour prices.
