PESHAWAR: At least two people have died and two others were injured in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) since August 17, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said.

According to the PDMA, the casualties occurred after roofs and walls of houses collapsed amid heavy rainfall. The deceased include one man and one woman, while the injured comprise one man and one woman.

The heavy rains have also damaged eight houses across the province, with five partially damaged and three completely destroyed, the authority said.

The incidents were reported in Abbottabad, Swat, Buner, Swabi and Lower South Waziristan districts.

The PDMA said it remains in contact with Rescue 1122, district administrations and other relevant departments, with relief and response operations continuing in the affected areas.

PDMA Director General urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, refrain from visiting sensitive tourist destinations and follow weather alerts and advisories issued by government authorities.

The PDMA’s Emergency Operations Centre is fully operational. Citizens can report any untoward incident and obtain information about weather conditions by calling the authority’s free helpline at 1700.
