ISLAMABAD: The federal government collected Rs 1.576 trillion in petroleum development levy from consumers during the last fiscal year, according to official data released on government revenues and expenditures.
According to a Samaa TV report, the figures show that petroleum levy collections increased by around 29% compared with the previous fiscal year, when the government collected approximately Rs 1.22 trillion under the levy.
According to the figures, receipts from petroleum levy were Rs 356 billion higher from the previous year while Rs 26 billion was added in receipts from customs duty and carbon levy.
The figures showed that the government’s expenditure crossed Rs 15.282 trillion in the fiscal year 2025-26.
Fiscal deficit of the government was recorded at Rs 4.763 trillion or about 2.6% of GDP as per figures provided by the finance ministry.
Spending in one sector reportedly increased from Rs892 billion to more than Rs1 trillion.
The finance ministry said that Rs7.668 trillion was allocated to provinces under the NFC formula.
Defence spending jumped by 18%, rising to Rs2.588 trillion during the fiscal year.
