ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) is set to consider a proposal to increase the profit margin of petroleum dealers by Rs1.34 per litre, according to sources.
The proposal is expected to be presented at an ECC meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. today, chaired by the federal finance minister. Sources said the increase in petroleum dealers’ margins is the meeting’s sole agenda item.
Under the proposal, the dealers’ margin on petroleum products would rise by Rs1.34 per litre.
Petroleum dealers currently receive a margin of Rs8.64 per litre on petroleum products.
The proposed increase follows an assurance reportedly given by the government to petroleum dealers during negotiations that their margins would be increased.
The ECC will review the proposal and decide whether to approve the increase.
