Experts have warned Facebook users to think carefully before sharing any post on social media, as public posts will be easily searchable through artificial intelligence (AI) in the future, which may raise concerns about privacy and online security.
According to experts, if a user has made a public post in the past on a personal matter, a dispute with a friend, or a sensitive topic, that information may come to light in a few moments through the future AI search feature, although it was not easy to find it among thousands of posts earlier.
According to reports, Facebook is preparing to introduce a new feature based on artificial intelligence in its search system, after which the search bar will also provide answers to questions like a chat assistant instead of just searching for words traditionally. Under this system, users will also be able to access public posts, comments, and other available information relatively easily.
Experts say that although this change will make it easier to find information than before, privacy and cybersecurity issues may also increase. According to them, if more effective analysis and search of public posts is possible through AI, elements involved in cybercrime can also use users’ information to more easily target them for fraud or other online scams.
Cybersecurity experts advise users not to make their personal information public unnecessarily and to keep the privacy of posts on Facebook to friends or a limited circle instead of keeping it public. For this purpose, Facebook’s “Limit Past Posts” feature can be used, through which all past public posts can be limited to friends only.
Experts have also emphasized that users should periodically review their privacy settings and avoid sharing personal information on social media that could pose a threat to their privacy or security in the future.
