Google Maps may soon expand beyond navigation by allowing users to order food directly through the app, according to findings from the latest Android version of the service.

A report by Android Authority revealed that code discovered in a recent Google Maps update points to a new feature that will enable users to place food orders through conversational interactions.

According to the report, the feature appears to be integrated with Ask Maps, Google’s AI-powered assistant within Google Maps that allows users to interact with the app using natural language to obtain information about locations and nearby places.

The code suggests users may be able to order food while traveling, making it possible to arrange meals during a journey without switching to a separate food delivery application.

The report also identified interface elements and buttons indicating that Google is actively preparing to roll out the food-ordering functionality.

In addition, references to a drive-up service were found in the code, suggesting users may also have the option to collect their orders from participating restaurants.

Google had previously hinted at the upcoming feature in a blog post published a few weeks ago, stating that food ordering would soon be integrated into Google Maps.

However, the company has not announced an official launch date, and it remains unclear when the feature will become available to users worldwide.
