Kansas City: The Argentina national football team spectacularly opened their campaign with a 3–0 victory over Algeria national football team, powered by a historic hat-trick from captain Lionel Messi in Kansas City.
Messi had a historic outing in this World Cup game as he made headlines with his very first World Cup hat-trick, playing an outstanding game throughout both halves of the game at Kansas City on Tuesday night.
After taking control right from the beginning, Argentina went ahead and dominated the game with Messi getting into action twice in the first half and then twice again in the second half. The historic match also happened to be the Argentine team captain Messi’s 200th international appearance.
In terms of positioning within the Group J, Argentina is currently placed on a good footing following their win as they will face Austria in the next match to follow after Jordan in Dallas.
It is worth mentioning that other top soccer stars such as Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland have also been part of other doubles in addition to Messi’s hat-trick within this year’s World Cup.
In light of this, it seems that by achieving this feat, Messi has equalled Miroslav Klose’s all-time FIFA World Cup record of 16 World Cup goals for all time.
This is because the journey of this great Argentine soccer star in the World Cup started in 2006 and ever since then he has delivered several defining moments such as the double that gave Argentina its first win in the 2022 World Cup final.
In another storyline of the football world, fans of Neymar also reacted to tournament developments as the global competition continues to deliver high-profile performances from football’s biggest stars.
As the tournament progresses, attention now turns to whether Messi can maintain his record-breaking form and lead Argentina deeper into the competition.
