Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to help reduce tensions between the United States and Iran were praised during a debate in the UK House of Lords, where British lawmakers acknowledged Islamabad’s role in promoting dialogue and regional stability.
During a discussion on the situation in the Middle East, several members of the House of Lords highlighted Pakistan’s contribution to efforts aimed at de-escalation and peace-building in the region.
Speaking during the debate, Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon paid tribute to Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives, stating that the House would recognize the country’s important role in the process. He also thanked both Pakistan and Qatar for their constructive engagement.
In a gesture that drew attention in the chamber, Lord Ahmad expressed his appreciation in Urdu, saying: “Pakistan ka bohat bohat shukriya” (Many thanks to Pakistan).
Representing the British government, Baroness Chapman of Darlington also praised Pakistan’s efforts, saying the country had played an important role in helping bring the United States and Iran to their current stage of engagement.
The debate also referenced the diplomatic initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
Lord Barber of Chiltelhampton urged the British government to formally congratulate the Pakistani premier on his efforts to promote peace and dialogue.
Responding to the suggestion, Baroness Chapman said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had “done a good job” and deserved recognition for his contribution to regional peace efforts.
