DOHA: Qatar has expressed strong support for Pakistan’s diplomatic role in facilitating mediation efforts between the United States and Iran, highlighting Islamabad’s contribution as central to ongoing regional engagement.

Speaking during a weekly media briefing, Advisor to the Prime Minister and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Dr. Majed Al Ansari said Qatar is actively backing a Pakistani-led mediation framework and working alongside Islamabad within the broader negotiating process.

“Regarding the role of Qatar in this mediation, we are supporting the Pakistani-led mediation, working within the mediation team in support of the efforts of our brothers in Pakistan,” Al Ansari stated.

He emphasized appreciation for Pakistan’s diplomatic involvement, noting that its efforts have been instrumental in advancing dialogue between Washington and Tehran. “We must praise the role Pakistan has played to get us to this point, and the role that they will play forward as the main mediator between the US and Iran,” he added.

Al Ansari also underscored Qatar’s continued commitment to regional stability, describing mediation efforts as part of the country’s broader responsibility in supporting security and de-escalation across the Middle East.

“For us in Qatar, we don’t take lightly our responsibility towards regional security,” he said.

The remarks come amid renewed diplomatic activity aimed at reducing tensions between the United States and Iran, with several regional actors contributing to backchannel communications and facilitation efforts. Qatar and Pakistan have both played recurring roles as intermediaries in sensitive regional negotiations in recent years.
