A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed regarding the ongoing police infrastructure and development projects in the merged districts, acquisition and construction of land for police lines, police stations, outposts, and police posts, including official residences of DPOs.
A detailed review of the progress of the ongoing police development projects in the merged districts was conducted. The meeting was informed that 88 police development projects will be launched with the financial support of the federal government at a cost of about Rs 16 billion, of which work is underway on 48. These projects will be constructed in eight districts, including Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, South Waziristan Lower, Tank, and Dera Ismail Khan. Construction work on several projects is in full swing, while some projects have entered various stages of completion.
The meeting took a detailed review of the land, site transfer, and other administrative issues faced by these projects. The meeting was informed that for projects facing issues like land acquisition, ownership disputes, or provision of alternative sites, contacts and practical steps are being taken with the district administration, revenue authorities, and other relevant institutions to resolve them. Alternative locations have also been identified for some projects, while the remaining issues are being resolved on a priority basis.
IGP Zulfiqar Hameed directed the concerned district administration, revenue authorities, and implementing agencies to ensure the timely and quality completion of the projects by removing all obstacles on a priority basis. He also directed the concerned officers to further accelerate the pace of work on ongoing projects so that the police force in the merged districts gets a modern and effective infrastructure. The overall law and order situation and security arrangements were also discussed in detail during the meeting. The IGP stressed the need to effectively utilize all available resources for the protection of public life and property and the establishment of sustainable peace in the area.
The meeting was attended by Additional IG Headquarters Abbas Ahsan, DG PCU Shaukat Abbas, DIG Finance and Procurement Muhammad Kashif Mushtaq Kanjo, and senior officers of 11 Corps, while the concerned Regional Police Officers and District Police Officers participated in the meeting through video link and gave a briefing on the ongoing development projects and security issues in their respective districts.
It should be noted that for the first time in history, 88 projects have been prepared with the support of the federal government for the construction and rehabilitation of police infrastructure in the merged districts, with a huge amount of Rs 16 billion, of which work has started on 48 projects. For these projects, Rs 2.25 billion has been allocated for the purchase of land, while more than Rs 14.5 billion has been allocated for the construction of infrastructure.
According to the details, a total of Rs 3322 million will be spent on 5 police stations and 4 outposts including Police Lines Khar in Bajaur district, Rs 2664 million on 4 police stations and 1 outpost in Mohmand district, Rs 4583 million on the construction of 2 police stations and 33 outposts including Shah Kas and Tor Dara police lines in Khyber district, Rs 2751 million on 5 police stations and 12 outposts including Police Lines Parachinar and Sadda in Kurram district, Rs 2505 million on two police stations and 8 outposts including Police Lines Orakzai in Orakzai district, while Rs 265 million will be spent on the construction of Wana police station in South Waziristan, Rs 441 million on the construction of two police stations in the former FR Tank and Rs 316 million on the construction of a police station and outpost in the former FRDI Khan.
The participants of the meeting reiterated their resolve that all institutions will continue to fulfill their responsibilities with cooperation and coordination for the improvement of police infrastructure, enhancement of public service quality, and establishment of law and order in the merged districts.
