ISLAMABAD: People planning to travel or seek asylum in European Union member states may face stricter immigration procedures as the bloc begins implementing a new migration and asylum framework from June 2026.

As reported by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment in Pakistan, the new deal intends to create a streamlined, efficient, and fast migration and asylum processing system for Europe.

The framework mandates that all migrants crossing the EU borders have to go through more rigorous screening than before, and the process of granting asylum will be expedited under the new deal. European officials stated that the new reforms will enhance the process of identifying undocumented migrants and making quick decisions about their stay in the country.

The major highlight of the agreement includes the efforts being made to deport unauthorized migrants in order to reduce illegal migration in Europe. For this very purpose, a new return mechanism is being introduced alongside the introduction of a list of “safe countries.”

The new policy is expected to significantly impact asylum seekers and migrants from countries outside Europe, including individuals attempting to enter the region through unauthorized routes.

New entry, exit system introduced for travel to European countries

Earlier, a new entry and exit System (EES) has been introduced for travel to European countries, replacing traditional passport stamping with digital records, according to the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment.

Under the new system, all non-European citizens requiring short-term entry into the Schengen Area will be covered. The initiative is designed to strengthen monitoring and improve security of non-EU nationals entering and exiting Europe.

According to the statement, biometric data including fingerprints and facial images will be collected at border control points.

Officials said the implementation of the EES will make travel easier and save time, while also enhancing overall border security.

The system is also expected to help prevent the use of fake identities and documents, and assist in identifying individuals overstaying their permitted duration.

The bureau has advised Pakistani travellers to familiarize themselves with the new requirements and conditions before travelling to Europe in order to avoid any inconvenience.

Pakistanis seeking job opportunities in Germany must make sure that their educational qualifications are properly authenticated and duly approved according to the recent instructions.

It has been instructed by the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment that candidates should have their educational records verified through the German Recognition System prior to seeking employment and visa approvals.

According to the latest instruction, the German central agency for the recognition of foreign higher education qualifications, named Anabin would verify the validity of the degrees of students. It should be mentioned here that the German educational standard needs to be met by applicants.
