PESHAWAR: A discrepancy has surfaced in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government motorcycle relief programme after a beneficiary reportedly received Rs100 instead of the officially announced Rs2,200.
Under the “Ehsaas Motorcycle Relief Programme,” the provincial government has allocated Rs3 billion to provide financial assistance to motorcycle owners. The scheme is designed to support around 1.6 million users, with each eligible recipient entitled to Rs2,200.
However, official records indicate that only 17,658 individuals have registered so far, while 8,515 applications have been approved. More than 5,000 beneficiaries have reportedly received payments.
The case of a citizen receiving only Rs100 has raised concerns over transparency and the payment mechanism of the scheme, prompting questions about administrative efficiency.
Officials said the matter is under investigation and efforts are underway to determine why the full amount was not transferred. They added that technical or data-related issues in the payment system are being reviewed, and any errors identified will be rectified immediately.
Authorities have assured that corrective action will be taken where necessary to ensure beneficiaries receive the full amount as per policy.
KP govt revokes relief in market operating hours across province
Earlier, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has suspended the enforcement of prescribed market, commercial, and business closure timings across the province until further notice. This decision was announced in a public notice issued by the Office of the Chief Secretary.
According to the notification, the decision was made with the approval of the competent authority and continues the earlier electricity conservation measures implemented throughout the province.
Despite this suspension, the government encourages citizens, markets, shopping plazas, marriage halls, restaurants, industries, and public sector offices to continue practicing energy-saving measures.
These include avoiding unnecessary and decorative lighting and ensuring the prudent use of air conditioning and other non-essential electricity consumption.
The notice emphasizes that this action aims to promote responsible energy use and conserve national resources for the greater public good. The decision took effect immediately on May 16, 2026.
Earlier, business hours were extended for the public in celebration of Eid al-Adha.
