BAJAUR: The second suspect involved in the May 14 suicide attack in Loyi Mamond Mena area of Bajaur has been identified as an Afghan national, official sources confirmed.

According to details, the alleged attacker has been identified as Baitullah alias Akif, a resident of Afghanistan’s Wardak province.

Security sources said the suspect was active within a proscribed group referred to as “Fitna al-Khawarij” under the name “Akif Hanin”. Officials further claimed that he had previously been associated with the Afghan Taliban.

Sources added that the suspect appeared in circulated images alongside the first suicide attacker, Jalaluddin alias Sajad, inside an Afghan military post. In another image, he is reportedly seen wearing a vest associated with a suicide unit of the same group.

Security officials said investigations are ongoing to establish the wider network behind the attack and to verify cross-border linkages.
