PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has suspended the enforcement of prescribed market, commercial, and business closure timings across the province until further notice. This decision was announced in a public notice issued by the Office of the Chief Secretary.

According to the notification, the decision was made with the approval of the competent authority and continues the earlier electricity conservation measures implemented throughout the province.

Despite this suspension, the government encourages citizens, markets, shopping plazas, marriage halls, restaurants, industries, and public sector offices to continue practicing energy-saving measures.

These include avoiding unnecessary and decorative lighting and ensuring the prudent use of air conditioning and other non-essential electricity consumption.

The notice emphasizes that this action aims to promote responsible energy use and conserve national resources for the greater public good. The decision took effect immediately on May 16, 2026.

Earlier, business hours were extended for the public in celebration of Eid al-Adha.
