ISLAMABAD: More than 25 million children across Pakistan’s four provinces and the federal capital are currently out of school, according to figures presented during a session of the National Assembly.
The data, submitted in a written reply by the Federal Ministry of Education, highlighted the worsening state of education in the country and revealed that the out-of-school children fall within the age group of 5 to 16 years.
According to the ministry’s report, Punjab has the highest number of out-of-school children, with nearly 9.06 million children unable to attend school.
Sindh ranked second on the list, where around 7.082 million children are deprived of basic education facilities.
The report further stated that more than 4.092 million children in Balochistan are out of school, while approximately 9,000 children in Islamabad are also unable to access basic education.
The figures presented by the government point to a deepening educational crisis and underline the seriousness of the challenges facing Pakistan’s education sector.
