Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s younger daughter Mah Noor has got engaged. On this happy occasion, a short and solemn engagement ceremony was held at the Sharif family’s residence Jati Umra, which was attended by close family members.

The ceremony was kept very simple in accordance with the current country’s conditions and government policy, which is being described as an attempt to spread the message of simplicity and savings at the public level.

This simple engagement ceremony was attended by PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, Captain (retd) Safdar, the family of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other close relatives of the family. According to media reports, Mahnoor’s fiancé belongs to a well-known business family, however, further details have been kept limited to maintain the family’s confidentiality. During the ceremony, Nawaz Sharif showered his granddaughter and future son-in-law with prayers.

The Sharif family’s ceremonies are usually the center of discussion in the media and public circles. In the past, the wedding ceremonies of Junaid Safdar (Maryam Nawaz’s son) had gained a lot of fame, however, this time the Punjab Chief Minister chose ‘simplicity’ for the engagement of his younger daughter.

This decision has come at a time when the Punjab government is running an austerity campaign and measures are being taken to reduce expenses at the government level.

The Punjab Chief Minister has kept his personal event simple to convey the message that the savings policy is not just for the public or government offices but also for the ruling family’s own lifestyle.

The presence of the families of Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif together at the event shows the internal unity of the Sharif family and the strength of family roots.

Avoiding lavish events during the current economic challenges reinforces Maryam Nawaz’s political narrative that she is an equal partner in the public’s suffering.

Choosing relatives usually leads to increased political or business influence. Getting married in a well-known business family is an indication of further expansion in the economic and social circles of the Sharif family.
