ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested an assistant director of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) for allegedly attempting to illegally restore cancelled national identity cards belonging to Afghan citizens, officials said.
According to FIA sources, the accused, identified as Aftab, allegedly received more than Rs120 million in exchange for restoring the cancelled CNICs of 51 Afghan nationals.
Following his arrest, an FIA team also conducted a raid at the suspect’s residence and recovered Rs1.9 million in cash, according to the sources.
Investigators further discovered that the accused allegedly used the remaining money received as bribes to purchase valuable plots in Havelian and G-15, Islamabad.
Police and FIA officials seized the documents related to the properties as part of the investigation.
The FIA has registered a case against the accused and expanded its investigation to identify and arrest other individuals allegedly involved in the network.
