DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi expressed his desire to see a coalition government established in the province, claiming that certain factions within the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) were actively seeking a change in the chief minister’s office.
Speaking to media persons in Dera Ismail Khan, the governor asserted that the PTI had recently replaced its leadership in the province after discovering Mir Jafars and Mir Sadiqs within its own ranks a reference to internal betrayals. He claimed that the internal friction persists and that many within the party were dissatisfied with the current provincial setup.
Meetings and contacts are a routine part of politics, Kundi remarked when questioned about his communication with other political forces.
He confirmed that he remains in contact with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, adding that efforts were underway to move towards a more inclusive coalition administration in the province.
The governor highlighted that Dera Ismail Khan had emerged as a stronghold for the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), noting that the district currently accounts for the highest number of elected representatives from the party in the provincial assembly.
Addressing regional development, the governor lamented that certain elements were attempting to create hurdles in the execution of the Dera Ismail Khan International Airport project. He emphasized that despite these obstacles, the project remained a priority for the uplift of the region.
Responding to a query regarding rumors of former chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur’s return to a position of power, Mr. Kundi dismissed the speculation as baseless.
Once someone alights from the PTI bus, their return is nearly impossible, he quipped, adding that those who had parted ways with the party leadership usually found the doors closed behind them.
The governor’s comments come amid a period of heightened political maneuvering in the province, as the PPP seeks to expand its footprint in a region traditionally dominated by the PTI and JUI-F.
