The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allegedly re-inaugurated an old project for the second time in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is raising questions over the performance of the education department.
According to details, the Participatory Online Home Learning Alternative (POH) project under the Elementary and Secondary Education Foundation had already been launched in 2022.
This project was first introduced in 2022 during the tenure of the then Provincial Education Minister Shahram Tarakai. An organization called ‘Hope 87’ provided funds of more than Rs 85 million for this project, which was launched under the name ‘Participatory Online Home Learning Alternative’. At that time, not only was a virtual school studio established, but more than 13,000 female students were enrolled, and technical staff were recruited.
In a recent development, the same old project has been inaugurated again by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi as part of the ‘Good Governance Plan’. Although this time, officials claim that artificial intelligence (AI) and modern technology have been added to it, critics are calling it a waste of resources and political point-scoring.
There is deep concern in educational circles and the public at large about this issue, while no clear explanation has come out from the concerned education department to remove this ambiguity. The incident has cast doubt on ongoing educational reforms in the province and claims about the proper use of funds.
