The continuous power outage in the Shahpur area of Kohat for the past month has made life miserable for the people, and the angry residents staged a protest camp on the Bannu bypass.
The protesters say that electricity has been out in different areas of Shahpur for the past thirty days, due to which even a drop of water has become rare in mosques and homes. In this season of intense heat and humidity, the condition of children, the elderly, and the sick is deteriorating, while PESCO officials are trying to run the work using transformer breakdown or other technical excuses. The protest leaders said while talking to the media that they have repeatedly contacted the higher officials of PESCO and the local administration, but nothing has been achieved except for petty consolations.
The protesters have categorically announced that their protest camp and sit-in will continue until the electricity supply in the area is fully restored. They have threatened that if the power supply issue is not resolved immediately, they will expand the scope of the protest and permanently close the Indus Highway, for which the entire responsibility will fall on the administration and PESCO. Police personnel are deployed at the sit-in site, but no major progress has been made in the talks so far.
