The FBR has initiated action against jewellers who are not in the tax net and has sent notices to jewelers in several cities.

According to media sources, notices have been issued to jewellers in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Faisalabad and Multan in the initial phase, through which jewellers have been asked to explain their tax matters.

It may be recalled that it was revealed yesterday that the Federal Bureau of Revenue has collected data of more than 60,000 jewellers across the country, of which only 21,000 are registered, and only 10,524 of them have submitted regular tax returns.

Sources say that most jewellers try to hide and understate their actual income to avoid paying taxes. The FBR has decided to take strict action against this behaviour and, in the first phase, has prepared a list of 900 jewellers from Punjab who will face strict scrutiny and legal action.
