PESHAWAR: Senior police officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have reportedly expressed concerns over proposed changes to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act 2026, with some officers said to be considering leaving the province if significant changes are made to the existing distribution of powers.
According to police sources, officers from Grade 18 to Grade 20 have begun consultations over the proposed reforms. Some senior officers have reportedly raised concerns about the potential impact of the proposed changes on the police command structure and administrative authority.
Sources said that if additional powers are transferred to the chief minister under the proposed legislation and the powers of the inspector general of police (IGP) are reduced, a number of senior officers could consider seeking postings outside the province.
There are also reports circulating on social media that some officers belonging to the Pakistan Police Service (PSP) have expressed interest in moving to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Frontier Corps (FC). Meanwhile, some district police officers (DPOs) currently posted in the province are reportedly preparing for possible transfers to Punjab and Islamabad.

Police sources said concerns over political intervention and potential institutional changes have contributed to unease among senior officers. They warned that a reduction in the number of experienced officers could create an administrative gap in the province.
Sources further expressed concern that possible transfers or departures of senior officers could have implications for law and order if the situation leads to a shortage of experienced police leadership.
The reported concerns come as consultations continue over the proposed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act 2026 and possible changes to the powers, structure and functioning of the provincial police force.
