PESHAWAR: Muzammil Aslam, Advisor to the Finance Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has said that the provincial government is undertaking wide-ranging reforms aimed at strengthening governance, digitisation, and financial management across the province.
Addressing the Pakistan Governance Forum, he described the forum as an important platform reflecting a shared commitment to improved public service delivery and institutional performance. He emphasised that good governance is not only about policy formulation but also about ensuring its effective implementation and functionality on the ground.
The finance advisor revealed that 54 hospitals in the province are being shifted to improved management models to enhance service delivery. In addition, 250 health centres have been upgraded to provide round-the-clock maternity services.
Highlighting digital reforms, Aslam said 170 government services have been identified for digitisation, of which 56 have already been digitalised. The government payment system is currently functional in 73 services. Since January 2025, the salaries of 251,000 employees and 115,000 pensions have been processed through a micropayment gateway.
He further stated that more than 100 government services are now accessible to the public through the Dastak app. The province has also launched GIS-based property taxation to improve revenue collection and transparency.
On the revenue front, Aslam noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s own-source revenue has nearly doubled over the past two years, increasing from Rs65 billion to Rs129 billion.
Regarding education reforms, he claimed that the number of out-of-school children in the province has decreased by 50 per cent. Out of 8,179 madrasas operating in the province, 1,300 have been registered so far.
He also said that mapping and profiling of non-customs paid (NCP) vehicles have been completed across the province, and efforts are underway to bring such vehicles into a documented and regulated framework through formal registration.
The advisor reiterated that the government remains committed to strengthening institutions, expanding digital access, and ensuring transparent governance across all sectors.
