PESHAWAR: A special mission for complex paediatric cardiac surgeries has been successfully completed at Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), where more than 50 children underwent life-saving procedures free of cost.
According to hospital spokesperson Muhammad Asim, an international team from Little Hearts, comprising experts from Turkey and the United Kingdom, collaborated with LRH’s paediatric cardiology unit to perform the surgeries.
He said the mission included several highly complex procedures, some of which were conducted at the hospital for the first time. Dr Saadia Ilyas and her team played a key role in carrying out the operations.
The spokesperson added that the joint effort enabled the hospital to provide surgeries worth millions of rupees free of charge. He noted that three of the most complex procedures alone cost approximately Rs15 million, while numerous other operations were also performed without any fee.
LRH Director Tariq Burki and Medical Director Riaz ur Rehman expressed gratitude to the visiting team, stating that such humanitarian missions would continue in the future to ensure quality healthcare for underprivileged children.
