Traffic between Peshawar and Islamabad is significantly disrupted due to ongoing political protests near Sawabi and Burhan while GT road is also suspended after brief opening last night.
The M-1 Motorway is currently closed at several key points. Protesters have established a sit-in at the Swabi Interchange (Anbar Interchange) and the Swabi Rest Area.
The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) have confirmed closures between the Swabi Interchange (KM 420) and the Burhan Interchange (KM 387) for both Northbound and Southbound traffic.
While the GT Road (N-5) was opened briefly on Monday to clear stranded commuters, it remains highly congested. Traffic is being diverted through Swabi and Mardan via Karnal Sher Khan Chowk, leading to massive delays.
The protests are part of a wider blockade affecting multiple entry and exit points between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab.
