PCB Set to Replace Test Captain as Key Decisions Loom

Earlier, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to discuss crucial appointments and possibly make some changes in the leadership structure at an important two-day meeting on June 12 and 13.

According to a local news channel report, the meeting which will be chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, will focus on matters related to team management and selection, along with plans related to Test captains.

It is learned that, following the poor performance of the Test team lately, there could be a discussion regarding changing the Test team captaincy by removing Shan Masood and replacing him with T20 team captain Salman Ali Agha.

In addition to making the change of Test captain, the PCB can plan other major changes in the team structure, with the possibility of appointing former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez in an important administrative post.

The decision to appoint Shan Masood as Test captain came in January 2024, after Babar Azam decided to resign from the role. It should be mentioned that the performances of the Pakistan Test team under his captaincy have been unsatisfactory, with the team recording very few wins against its opponents.

The PCB has not confirmed anything till now, and more updates on the meeting are awaited.
