WASHINGTON: Carolyn Leavitt, the spokesperson for the White House, said that all the available options are still on the table when it comes to Iran, since there are more and more worries about the state of affairs in Iran.
In her press conference, Leavitt threatened with “serious consequences” if the violence in Iran continues, highlighting the administration’s close monitoring of the developments.
The White House representative talked about the 800 death sentences that Iran had suspended, but at the same time she underscored that the U.S. government is very much alert. “If the killings in Iran keep on going, then very serious consequences will follow,” she uttered. The spokesperson further claimed that President Trump is not only watching the developments in Iran but also contemplating various reactions.
Besides the Iran issue, Leavitt talked about the military deployments in Greenland and Europe still being discussed. She made it clear that these deployments would not affect the President’s decision on the issue. “The engagements with Denmark and Greenland will persist and all options about Greenland are still under consideration,” she asserted.
Leavitt also characterized the recent meeting concerning Greenland and Denmark as “positive,” reiterating that President Trump is still willing to look into all possible options related to Greenland.
Iran to US Allies: American bases will be hit if US strikes Iran
Earlier, Iran issued a stern warning to its neighbouring countries, saying that if the United States launches an attack on Iran, American military bases in the Middle East will be targeted in retaliation.
One of the top officials of Iran said that the country had clearly communicated to the US allies in the area and had asked them to prevent the US from going through with its military action against Iran. The official particularly named Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Turkey as countries that have been dealt with regarding the possible repercussions.
This warning comes in the aftermath of the escalating fears of a US-Iran confrontation. The Iranian regime has made it known that it considers the American military presence in the area as the sole reason for any tensions and that it will retaliate if this is the case.
A report coming from the Wall Street Journal, in turn, mentioned that the Gulf nations, with Saudi Arabia at the forefront, are totally against any US military action on Iran. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Oman are said to have warned the US that an attack on Iran would have the dire consequences of throwing the global oil market into chaos, which eventually would come back to the US economy.
Saudi officials have been sending messages to Iran that they will stay out of any dispute with it. They have also indicated that they will not allow the US to use Saudi airspace for military operations against Iran.
With the situation getting tenser day by day, it is still very fragile and a lot of people are looking forward to a diplomatic way out so that there will not be more fighting in this already unstable region.
