ISLAMABAD: Important information has been issued regarding end-of-service benefits available to Pakistani workers employed in Saudi Arabia, along with circumstances under which an employment contract may be terminated.

According to the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE), employees completing up to five years of service are entitled to end-of-service benefits equivalent to half a month’s salary for each year of service. After five years, workers are entitled to benefits equivalent to one full month’s salary for every additional year of service.

According to the report, employees who complete between two and five years of service are entitled to benefits equivalent to one-third of a month’s salary for each year worked, while those completing between five and 10 years are entitled to benefits equivalent to two-thirds of a month’s salary for each year of service.

The BEOE stated that Saudi Arabia has clearly defined labour laws governing foreign workers. In certain circumstances, an employee may be able to leave the job without completing the contractual period if the sponsor fails to pay wages on time or requires the worker to perform duties outside the terms of the employment contract.

According to the bureau, an employment contract may be terminated when its agreed period expires. It may also be terminated if the employer permanently ceases business operations or in cases involving disciplinary grounds, such as fraud, physical assault, disclosure of confidential information, or persistent refusal by the employee to perform assigned duties.

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment further clarified that if a worker is dismissed due to wrongful action by the employer or sponsor, the employee will be entitled to full end-of-service benefits in accordance with applicable Saudi labour laws.
