PESHAWAR: Despite the arrival of two LPG vessels at Port Qasim, prices of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) could not be reduced in different cities of the country and are still being sold at Rs 600 to 650 per kg.
In Peshawar, it is being sold at Rs 570 per kg, while in Attock, Rawalpindi and Islamabad the price remains at Rs 600 per kg. In Karachi, the price has reached Rs 550 per kg. On the other hand, chicken meat has also become more expensive across the country.
In Lahore, LPG shops remained closed for the second consecutive day due to a strike by shopkeepers, causing severe difficulties for domestic consumers. According to details, after a minor reduction of Rs 30, the price of LPG in Quetta has come down to Rs 520 per kg.
It is worth mentioning that two ships carrying LPG from Oman have arrived in Pakistan at Port Qasim with 7,603 metric tons of LPG, after which there were hopes of a decrease in LPG prices, but the impact has not yet reached the retail market.
According to sources, both vessels carrying a total of 7,603 metric tons of LPG have reached Port Qasim, Karachi. Giving details, sources said that the vessel named “Perenis” offloaded 4,250 metric tons of LPG at the SSGC Terminal, while the second vessel, “Elisa One,” offloaded 3,353 metric tons at the Engro Terminal. Market sources have confirmed that with the arrival of fresh consignments, LPG supply in the country will improve significantly. Sources further revealed that the stalled LPG supply from Iran through the border route is also expected to resume from tomorrow, which will further stabilize the market.
Following the improvement in supply, a decrease in LPG prices is expected from tomorrow, bringing much-needed relief to domestic consumers who have been facing inflated prices for the past several weeks.
LPG is widely used for domestic cooking and in areas where natural gas is not available.
