NEW YORK: US President Donald Trump praised Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during his address to the United Nations General Assembly, describing him as a “great leader” and an “excellent person.”
Trump said Sharif had told him that he had helped save millions of lives. The US president also highlighted Pakistan’s participation, along with Qatar, Jordan and other countries, in what he referred to as the “Gaza Board of Peace.”
Discussing international conflicts, Trump said he had helped end eight wars, including the conflict between Pakistan and India. He also spoke about the Russia-Ukraine war, claiming that as many as 25,000 soldiers were dying each day.
On Iran, Trump said he expected a possible agreement with Tehran soon after the US elections. He said the United States and its allies needed to remain united in maintaining pressure on Iran and called for measures to economically isolate the Iranian government.
Trump said Iran could not be allowed to possess nuclear weapons and claimed that the US “Operation Midnight Hammer” had damaged Iran’s nuclear program. He also accused Tehran of supporting terrorism and said he had engaged in negotiations with Iran.

Turning to the broader international situation, Trump said his administration had sought to resolve conflicts and long-running disputes around the world. He emphasized his claim that his presidency had contributed to peace efforts and said the United States was attracting investment from around the world.
Trump also presented a positive assessment of the US economy, saying the country had entered a “golden era.” He said tourism was growing, the private sector was creating large numbers of jobs, and the US military and economy were stronger than before.
He further criticized the previous US administration, arguing that it had left the American economy in a weakened state, while saying that the United States was now more powerful and economically stronger.
