CHILAS: (INAYATULLAH KHAN) In recent days, news of potential gold deposits and new opportunities has once again become the center of public attention, as Chilas, the capital of Diamer district, already held a unique significance due to its natural beauty, high mountains, and immense natural resources.

While this news has awakened a new ray of hope among the local population, on the other hand, it has also raised several serious questions. The question is, is this region really going to embark on new paths of development? Or is it just another temporary excitement and uncertain expectations?

The people of Diamer are simple-minded, hardworking people, and their lives depend mostly on limited employment and local natural resources. Extracting gold from the banks of the Indus River by sifting sand is an ancient art here, which has now become a major and reliable source of employment for hundreds of families in Diamer district. This “charisma” of finding gold from sand grains is the reason for lighting the stoves of many families today, which has further highlighted the economic and geographical importance of this area.

However, history teaches us that resources extracted from the land or river alone do not change the destiny of a nation; real change comes from the transparent, fair, and wise use of these resources.

“If there is gold in the soil and rivers of Diamer, then it is undoubtedly a great divine blessing. But this blessing can bring lasting prosperity only when honesty and effective planning are ensured at the government level, along with individual efforts.”

Experience has shown that if there is no transparency in the distribution of resources, these minerals become the cause of conflicts, mistrust, and economic inequality instead of development. There is a need for the government and local leadership to come together and formulate a comprehensive strategy that, while protecting the traditional livelihoods of the common man, also promotes the process of extracting minerals on a scientific basis. Direct employment opportunities should be created for local youth, and basic facilities like education and health should be made an integral part of this development process.

For Diamer, the real “charisma” is not just gold, but the collective consciousness that knows how to use its resources properly for its own betterment. God’s blessings become a real blessing only when their management includes justice, honesty, and responsibility.

In the end, it can be said that it is important to have hope in this wealth obtained from the river, but solid planning, sincerity of action, and strict accountability are even more necessary to turn this hope into a real economic revolution.
