PESHAWAR: Senior Afghan journalist and analyst Sami Yousafzai has criticized the policies of the Taliban government, alleged that Taliban’s actions have effectively isolated Afghanistan from the international community.
Owing to Taliban’s policies, the World is closing doors for Afghan citizens, he further explained. In a statement on social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Yousafzai shared details of travel and visa restrictions imposed on Afghan citizens by various countries.
He questioned where an Afghan would go for tourism, medical treatment or travel, adding these restriction were increasing day by day. He said Saudi Arabia had restricted Umrah visas for Afghans, while the United Arab Emirates, including Dubai, had also imposed strict visa restrictions on Afghan citizens despite issuing tourist visas to people from many countries.
Similarly, Yousafzai said Pakistan, Iran, India, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Türkiye had either stopped issuing visas to Afghans or significantly restricted their issuance. He added that visa processing for Afghan passport holders in Europe and the United States had also been largely suspended.
Yousafzai said Afghans were facing rejection around the world because of the Taliban’s policies. Afghans being viewed through the lens of the Taliban government, he added. He said that Afghanistan is part of the international community and “not an abandoned island”, arguing that Afghan citizens should have access to basic rights, including education, travel and employment opportunities.
