MIRPUR: The conscious people of Kashmir have rejected the strike call given by the Awami Action Committee and have expressed their resolve to promote positive and healthy activities.
On October 4, an indefinite strike call and closure of business activities were given by the Awami Action Committee; however, contrary to that, preparations are underway for the holding of the Football Tournament 2026 under the auspices of Kashmir Premier League (KPL) in Mirpur.
In this regard, a special ceremony and press conference were organized, in which personalities belonging to different political and social circles participated. The football tournament under the auspices of Kashmir Premier League will be held in Mirpur on October 8, 9 and 10, in which teams from Ladakh, Srinagar, Jammu, Poonch, Mirpur and Muzaffarabad will participate.
Addressing the press conference, Vice Chancellor Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), Professor Dr. Anwar Khattab, said that sports play an important role in physical health as well as personality building of youth.
Through sports, discipline, tolerance, teamwork, and leadership skills are developed among youth, while opportunities for healthy activities help in providing a positive direction to the young generation.
He said that holding a football tournament on the platform of Kashmir Premier League will not only provide opportunities for youth to showcase their talents but will also play an important role in promoting love, brotherhood, and mutual relations among the people of different regions.
Professor Dr. Anwar Khattab said that Mirpur is a beautiful city and a land of hospitable people, where holding major sports events can become a source of promotion of social and economic activities. With the arrival of players, officials and fans from different regions, business activities in hotels, transport, markets, restaurants and other sectors will be boosted.
He further said that the connections established between people of different cities and regions through sports can create new opportunities for educational, cultural, social and commercial cooperation in the future.
The holding of the football tournament is being termed an important step towards the promotion of positive activities for youth and strengthening contacts and brotherhood between different regions through sports.
