MALAKAND: Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Malakand chapter held a protest rally against inflation in the Dargai area of District Malakand.
The protest was organized jointly by Muttahida Trade Union Dargai and Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians Malakand. Around 600 to 650 people participated in the rally.
During the demonstration, protesters burnt tyres on the road and chanted slogans against rising inflation, unemployment, load-shedding, and the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They also raised slogans against the PTI provincial government.
The rally was led by Asfandyar Khan, President of Muttahida Trade Union Dargai, Ghulam Hussain, General Secretary of the Union, Fazal Jamil, Provincial President of Transport Union, and Zahir Shah, President of Press Club Dargai.
The protesters demanded that the government ensure peace in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Malakand, control inflation, end load-shedding, and pay attention to the health and education sectors.
Police were deployed to maintain law and order. The protest remained peaceful, and participants dispersed after registering their protest.
Malakand Division including Swat, Buner and Dir has seen a rise in extortion, target killings and security incidents in the last year. Trade unions and civil society are demanding peace, as instability directly affects markets and transport routes.That is why slogans were focused on four points: Peace, Inflation, Load-shedding and Health/Education.Police said similar small rallies have been held in Batkhela, Dargai bazaar and Sakhakot in the last two weeks.
