ISLAMABAD: SpaceX, the aerospace giant led by Elon Musk, is reportedly in talks to acquire the cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) company co-founded by Pakistani teen Saleh Asif and his MIT colleagues, valued at a staggering $60 billion.
According to Express News, the agreement, which is set to reshape the landscape of AI development, will see SpaceX either fully acquire the company or enter into a partnership. Under the terms of the deal, SpaceX is prepared to pay $10 billion for collaborative efforts, or proceed with a full purchase of the company for $60 billion.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X, SpaceX confirmed the partnership with Cursor AI, the company founded by Saleh Asif and his friends. These two companies will work together to build the world’s most sophisticated AI models, mainly in programming and knowledge-based areas. This partnership hopes to give SpaceX an access to the advanced technology developed by Cursor that involves artificial intelligence built with the help of supercomputers with the capability of running some of the most complicated computing models, such as the one offered by the NVIDIA’s H100K systems.
Cursor AI has already become a significant player within the industry of artificial intelligence and competes with other technology companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The company was valued at $29.3 billion after raising $2.3 billion from investors in November 2025, and the scale of operations was quickly growing. The AI code generation platform offered by Cursor AI is used by millions of developers in 50,000 companies, including NVIDIA, Adobe, Uber, and Shopify.
A Stellar Rise for Saleh Asif
Saleh Asif comes from Karachi. From 2016 to 2018, he participated in the International Math Olympiad for his home country of Pakistan, demonstrating an interest and talent in solving complex mathematical tasks. Moreover, in 2023, being just a university student, Asif Saleh co-created the company that developed the innovative AI search engine and became known as Cursor AI.
Over the last few years, the company experienced rapid growth and gained revenue of over $1 billion annually. Saleh’s entrepreneurial skills won him acclaim as one of the prominent tech geniuses.
